How HYON is Helping Businesses Practice Responsible Consumption and Production

In today’s world, there is a growing awareness of the environmental impacts of consumerism.

There is a desire for businesses to practice responsible consumption and production, and we are pleased to help companies with this mission.

What are the UN's Sustainable Development Goals?

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 goals which were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 to replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The SDGs will be a milestone in the history of development policy and are widely viewed as a way to improve the lives of billions of people.

With that in mind, it is vital that the SDGs are successful in achieving the global targets set for them.

The SDGs are divided into three clusters:

* The first cluster of nine goals covers the environment and includes goals to ensure access to clean water and sanitation, combat climate change, and reduce air pollution.

* The second cluster of eight goals focuses on economic growth and poverty and includes goals to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, reduce inequality, create decent work, and foster innovation.

* The third cluster of four goals promotes health, education, gender equality, and reduced inequalities, and includes goals to improve maternal and child health, ensure quality primary education, achieve universal primary education, and provide affordable, clean, and sustainable energy.

While each goal is important in its own right, it is the combination of all 17 goals that can make a significant difference to the world’s most vulnerable citizens.

To achieve this, the SDGs must be implemented at a global level. Companies that are already moving toward change include Huawei (SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), LEGO (SDG 4: Quality Education), and Discovery Channel (SDG 14: Life Below Water)

HYON's technology addresses goal #12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Our platform is guiding organizations to make better decisions around sourcing, circulating, and disposing of their physical assets.

What is Responsible Consumption and Production?

Responsible consumption and production is a philosophy that aims to reduce the environmental impact of economic growth. According to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, it's about using resources more efficiently, reducing waste and pollution, and ensuring that people and ecosystems are protected.

A growing number of businesses are adopting this approach, and we’re helping them do it. HYON has already helped organizations in the public, telecommunications, energy, and technology sectors circulate unused inventory. This has resulted in landfill avoidance, cost recovery, and support for local businesses and non-profits.

Canadian organizations have increasing sustainability resources as stakeholders demand metrics that progress the UN’s SDGs. HYON is well-positioned to support these initiatives and help companies gain the transparency they are searching for.
